All DNA samples are tested and analyzed by our partner AABB-accredited lab. This accreditation ensures that your results will be recognized in court and by all state agencies nationwide.

Legal DNA Testing is the only option offered in New York. NYSDOH also requires one of the following document be acquired prior to your DNA testing appointment being scheduled.
- A prescription referral from a NYS licensed doctor requesting DNA testing for all parties involved with your test.
- A court order from a judge requesting a DNA test be performed.
- A letter from a NYS licensed family law or immigration attorney request the participants be tested.

How to read Grandparent DNA test results?
DNA test results provide clear indicators of biological relationships through specific terminology and statistical measurements.
Key Components of the Results Not Excluded Results:
The tested grandparents are likely biological relatives to the child when this finding appears. A prior probability of 0.50 indicates a 50% chance of being related before testing.
Excluded Results:
The biological relationship between tested individuals is unlikely when the probability of relatedness shows a low percentage (e.g., 1.671583%). This assessment comes from comparing STR loci with random individuals from specific population groups using a prior probability of 0.50. Reliability Indicators: Positive Predictive Value exceeds 99% when the likelihood ratio is greater than 10 across more than 15 STR loci.
This confirms the reliability of positive relationship findings. Negative Predictive Value exceeds 99% when the likelihood ratio falls below 0.1 in two-party comparisons. This confirms the reliability of negative relationship findings. How to Interpret Your Results:
Look for “Not Excluded” or “Excluded” statements at the beginning of your results. Check the percentage of relatedness – higher percentages support biological relationships. Review the PPV and NPV values to understand the reliability of your specific results. Consult with your testing provider for clarification of technical terminology.
How much DNA do grandparents share with a grandchild?
Grandparents and grandchildren share roughly 25% percent of DNA.
Can grandparent perform DNA test without permission?
Grandparents must obtain permission from the mother or legal guardian to perform a legal DNA test under normal circumstances. The only exception applies to grandparents who are the legal guardians of their grandchild.
Non-legal DNA tests do not require permission. Legal consequences may result from unauthorized DNA acquisition depending on your state legal criteria. Checking your state laws regarding DNA collection without permission is recommended.
